What is Keystone Dock Dogs?
We're a group of dog lovers who have joined
together to promote the sport of Dock Dogs. We jump with
Labradors, Irish Water Spaniels, Great Danes, Border Collies,
Chesapeake Bay Retrievers and just about any other dog you can
think of that loves water. We have been a very active affiliate
club of Dock Dogs since 2006, holding four events in Pennsylvania
in 2007 and planning more for 2008. We have approximately 45
different teams competing at multiple Dock Dogs events in both
Big Air and Extreme Vertical. Click on the picture at left

Susquehanna Service Dogs a program of Keystone Children &
Family Services, trains and provides service dogs and hearing
dogs to assist children and adults with physical disabilities to
become more independent.
Service Dogs help individuals with spinal cord injuries, polio,
cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, arthritis, stroke, and
similar disabilities. Hearing dogs help people with hearing
impairments. Specialty training is provided for each dog
depending on the needs of the individual receiving the dog. A
child or adult who desires the assistance of a service or
hearing dog completes a formal application process. After
acceptance into the program, trained dogs and their new owners
complete a two to three week training program together.
Follow-up sessions are provided on a regular and as-needed
basis. A yearly certification test is required. SSD makes every
effort to ensure that our dogs do the job they were trained to
do. Check out the link below to see our blog.

HSHA is a private nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that has
been providing care for homeless animals, as well as education
for the community, since 1911. HSHA serves Cumberland, Dauphin,
Perry and northern York Counties. The organization receives no
funding from government or other animal welfare groups and must
rely on private donations and fundraising activities to support
its mission. HSHA maintains two shelters: East Shore Shelter,
7790 Grayson Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111 and West Shore Shelter,
710 Eppley Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
The organization recently achieved its ambitious goal of
sheltering all adoptable animals without euthanizing due to a
need for space, despite the fact that it takes in between 7,000
and 10,000 animals each year. HSHA also welcomes the public to
many fundraising events each year, including the Penguin Plunge,
Fur Ball Gala, Hogs 4 Dogs, and Doggie Drag Show. For more
information on the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, contact
the director of public relations at 717.564.3320 ext. 100. |
